Flora & Ulysses
When Disney+ reaches out to tell you they have a movie being edited by Jamie Egan about a superhero squirrel, you drop everything to work on it. FLORA & ULYSSES, based on the wonderful children’s book of the same name by Kate DiCamillo tells the touching story of Flora Buckman and a squirrel named Ulysses, who develops unusual intellectual and physical capabilities after being sucked into a vacuum cleaner. Director Lena Khan, Producer Gil Netter, and Jamie needed a series of graphic approaches to help tell backstory as well as provide character updates efficiently. These motion graphic beats include a graphic open to the film, several transitional “pods” throughout and a main on end title sequence. Comic book superheroes play a significant role in the movie, so we embraced that graphic language entirely as seen in the graphic open and title sequence shown above.
